  25A 4QD Bi-Directional DC Motor Speed Controller

Current Software Revision: V1.0   Four Quadrant (4QD), Large Current Capacity, Ultrasonic switching speeds 15khz (We can adjust this if required!) Electronic Braking, Battery Regen, Soft Start, Soft Stop, Control type calibration, Speed limiting and more! This smart little controller packs quite a punch and despite the fact that designing it certainly drove us crazy, it was a challenging project while it lasted. It was designed to fill a niche in the market! There are a lots of bi-directional controllers available out there in the wild, thats not the issue, but there is simply no GOOD ones available at a decent price. Really! I'm not making this up, they simply don't exist! (We don't count the Chinese controllers here, which have figures that may be greatly exagerrated)    Whilst designing this controller, It became apparent that it was getting harder and harder to stick to the original goals, simply because we kept trying to add more and more feaures as we progressed with the design. At the same time we were also trying hard to keep the overall cost of the units down compared to anyone elses offering (ALL original parts!) so every part, no matter how small could add up quickly to blow the cost out FAST!) So now with the latest model, we we've taken some of the same functionality of the original unit and improved on it even more! We now have provision to use a bigger heatsink if people plan on running it at its higher limits or slightly above for longer periods, more protection against people massaging the PCB while walking barefoot through plush carpet (static protection), protection on the inputs and we've also added mounting holes so that it can be more easily mounted, we've removed the need for the bracing on the bottom of the PCB, improved cooling efficiency and have made more subtle changes to increase reliability and useability.  You CAN slam this controller from fully forward to fully reverse if you really want to! But thats not all, the biggest and best change we've made to this board is the brand new model selection feature!. Before you were limited to using the model that you selected when you purchased the board, but now with our new "in house" software, you're now able to select any of the existing models simply by entering a new code and change the way your controller operates! You'll still have the chance to select your model though, while all models will be avaliable to you, this jsut determines how we set it up on the bench for you, we hand test each board that goes out, so if you have chosen one of our throttles, or need a certain feature activated we'll pre set it for you right here on the bench!

Best of all, as we further develop the software, new versions will be available to purchase that will give you new models or refinement of operations or functionality changes!

Extremely good controller. Has been tested and abused by people to love to break things! Can be used for all different types of applications and is available in a variety of different flavours. Was built to be simple but reliable. Two controllers could be doubled up to make a Joystick controlled vehicle with steeering.

The 1, 2 or 3 model selection is made by the user simply by programming the model you want to use. If you ever need to change models after purchase, it is as simple as selecting a new model by entering codes on in the user guide. If bugs are found or new models are released we’ll release new versions as required which means  a new revision of the IC and fitting it. Instructions for fitting can be found on the last page of the user guide.

 

Model 1 - Motor only runs while a switch is being shorted.  Model 1 - (SW1-Forward, SW2 - Reverse, SW3 - Brake. Adjustable Control 0-100>#/span###)  This controller model is suitable for Hall effect throttles or Potentiometers (Same as Model B). The two switches can be momentary or latching types. When pressed, SW1 sets the direction forward. SW2 Sets the Reverse direction. Pressing SW3 instantly applies the electronic brakes (regardless if button 1 or 2 are pressed or not which put it into a regenerative braking mode). The controller saves the direction states, soft start settings and input ranges into memory so when you switch on your settings remain as you set them from the previous switch off configuration states.

Model 2 - Motor runs constantly, shorting switch changes direction until it hits the . Model 2 - (SW1-Forward, SW2 - Reverse, SW3 - Brake. Adjustable Control 0-100>#/span###)  This controller model is suitable for Hall effect throttles or Potentiometers (Same as Model 1). The two switches can be momentary or latching types. The motor runs full time. When pressed, SW1 changes the direction forward. SW2 changes the direction into Reverse. Pressing SW3 instantly applies the electronic brakes (regardless if button 1 or 2 are pressed). The controller saves the direction states, soft start settings and input ranges into memory so when you switch on your settings remain as you set them from the previous switch off or configuration states. IF you have the softstart and soft stop on, you will need to place the microswitches earlier in the design of your project because you will soft stop after the button is pressed and it will then soft start in the other direction when it comes to a stop.

Model 3 runs constantly, SW3 shuts motor off. Controlled completely by potentiometer for both Directions!

Model 3 This controller model is suitable for hall effect throttles, Joysticks or Potentiometer PROVIDED CENTRED! ( and at approx. 2.5v centered, but the system if flexible). >span cache="color: black; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14px; text-indent: 0pt; background-color: transparent;" data-redactor-span="true" data-redactor-style-cache="font-family:Arial"CENTRED! ( and at approx. 2.5v centered, but the system if flexible). >span cache="color: black; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14px; text-indent: 0pt; background-color: transparent;">For switches, you can use either a LATCHING type (Switch on OR Switch OFF) or you can use a momentary switch too, if you want short or instant stops. This model is completely controlled by the pot (or a throttle controlled joystick that moves back to center). You cannot use soft start or limiting in this model. Buttons 1 and 2 do nothing, only SW3 acts as a brake. Remember, there is NO High Speed cutout, soft start or stop available for this model, you slow this model down from the controls you set on the pot. This model’s braking is applied at throttle down from either direction. The center of the pot is OFF and as you turn clockwise or anti clockwise, the controller will increase the speed in the direction you are turning the control. (Speed and direction are set by the potentiometer!)

It’s not good for hall effect unless you have an auto centering hall effect as unlike Model A or B, the direction is controlled directly from the input rather than by using any external switch or button. For example, say your potentiometer turns 180 degrees. This model splits that into a forward and reverse with reverse being 0-87 degrees and forward being 93-180 degrees (the middle 87-93 are the pot off position) degrees. Of course by changing the motor polarity, you can also have 0-87 degrees as forwards and 93-180 and go backwards!
